  About the Pioneers

The 2010 football season is underway. We are expecting great things of the Purple and White. Overall, we have a young team with limited varsity football playing experience, but we make up for it with a great deal of energy and athleticism.  There's excitement among our players with new things we are doing, both offensively and defensively. Our players have also bought into our coaching staff's approach, that with the decline in numbers, we are turning to IRONMAN football!

This season, we have three or four backs that will play for us. We don’t want to be in a one-back set all the time. We'll be in two and even three-back sets with the design to get our 11 best players on the field. We will still spread the field with four and five-wide looks, with the intent to get the ball into our skilled player’s hands. Running Backs are led by Coach Luke Edwards, who is back for his fourth season on the varsity staff.

We are pleased to have two very capable players competing for the quarterback position this fall. Both kids bring a great deal of leadership to this position. We will not make a decision on who our starting quarterback will be until the completion of our 4 way scrimmage. The Quarterbacks are coached by Tim Finnerty Sr. Tim led the JV to a 9-0 record a year ago as the head man.

Our wide receivers are made up of a solid group. This group had a strong summer with the emergence of some key rising seniors. We also have some talented juniors who will contribute a great deal throughout the season. How quickly they all come together will be determined by the type of success they will have as a group led by Coach Tim Finnerty Jr.

The offensive line was a major part of our success a year ago. We were able to achieve the highest point total in school history for a season of 377pts. We had a three headed monster at running back and two big play wide receivers. This year, we have one returning player that was a part-time starter, but we are confident that we have a talented group of linemen. This group will be led by first year Pioneer assistant Coach Rod Jones.

The Pioneers will look to a talented group of linebackers and secondary to help anchor their defensive unit in 2010. We will play extremely fast while trying to disrupt our opponent's offensive flow with a variety of blitz’s, in hope's to remind people of the original Purple Gang!!!

The defensive line is a group that was hit hard by the 2010 graduating class. Something our coaching staff hopes to be able to do this year is play more three-man fronts in our base defense. We have the talent and the depth within our defensive line group to allow us to do that this fall.  Our depth, especially at the defensive end positions, has a chance to be one of our team strengths. Coach Craig Jobe returns for his second year to man the defensive line.

We are excited about the potential of our linebackers. We have talented players and the competition among the group has been good. We are fast, athletic and physical. You can be sure to experience some excitement out of this group this fall. Coach Jason Gold and Coach Avery Taylor are back for a fourth season to lead this group.

We are optimistic about our defensive secondary group. We have a pair of very experienced safeties. We are confident that we will be better at the cornerback positions than we were last year with the additions of two seniors. First year Coach Joel Visser has all the tools to get this group playing fast.

Special Teams will have a new look under the guidance of Tim Finnerty Sr. He will lead all new kickers, even a couple of kicker returners who may take one or two the distance this year.

Please come out and cheer on your Pioneers! If you can't make it out, follow us on the Pioneer Football website. Be sure to check for the weekly highlight video, game notes and photos!
