9-1-10 The Ann Arbor Pioneer JV team holds on and beats Dexter 22-13 in hard fought game
The JV defeated the competitive Dexter Dreadnaughts last night 22-13 at Hollway Field. Zack Davis led the offense with well over 100 yrds on the ground. Our offensive line men Jessie Lemons, Bryan Matney, Joe Osinski, and Alex Diamond created the holes for our RBs and QB to move the ball consistently up and down the field for first down. Our opening drive led to a Zack Davis TD. Score 7-0 at the end of the 1st Qtr.
Dexter started the 2nd quarter in PHS territory due a Poineer fumble. Our defense shut down the Dexter offense despite an effective Dexter QB causing confusion on their possession. Jaleel Rosemond, Alex Diamond, Chad Reed, lead all tacklers at this time. A Dewan Olive-Abinojar interception halted a lengthy Dexter drive as he returned it to inside the Dexter 20 yd line. Unfortunately this drive ended with a PHS turnover. One of the impressive plays for PHS later this quarter was a reverse by Dewan for 20 yrds. That set up a QB keeper by Aedan York for 35-40 yds and another 1st down. The Dexter defense held and the score at the end of the half was still 7-0.
As each team struggled to get a drive going in the 3rd quarter. Anthony Radu had a good catch and run into the secondary. Jaleel Rosemond scored on a 25 yd interception. Ethan Spencer, Daniel Eder, and Diamond had strong tackles throughout the quarter. Dexter got focused mid 3rd quarter to score, making this a real contest. Score at the end of the quarter--PHS 14, Dexter 7.
Dexter used an effective passing attack and scored midway in the 4th quarter. Drew Siddall, Spencer, and Chad Reed combined on the big hit to stop the attempted 2pt conversion which would have given the Dreadnaughts the lead. This set the stage for what was a dramatic 4th quarter. On the next possession with 2:40 left in the game, PHS scored on a Reed sprint up the middle into the end zone. Davis ran for the 2 pt conversion. On Dexter’s final possession, they tried to go up top with a pass down field, but it was intercepted by Spencer. York downed the ball to run out the clock for the win.
Pioneer survived a turnover filled game with rugged defense and timely scoring to give Coach Ward and the JV team their second win of the season. The next game is at home against Saline on 9/9.
